The Sports Singapore and Republic Polytechnic issue the Fitness Instructor Course (FIC) certificate, that confirms you have the necessary skills and knowledge to be a general fitness trainer in Singapore.

So how do you go about in getting certified and what are the costs involved?

1) Firstly, you will need to get a Standard First Aid with AED certificate from an Accredited SFA Training Centre and here are the details:

Course: Standard First Aid with AED
Cost: Find out from each Training Centre’s website
Venue: Multiple Locations

2) Next, you have to successfully complete the Basic Exercise Science (BES) theory examination and here are the course details (from one of the service providers):

Republic Polytechnic

Course: Basic Exercise Science (BES)
Prerequisite: Minimum age of 18 years old
Cost: S$695.50 (inclusive of GST)
Venue: ACE @ Paya Lebar, Level 7 (Lobby B), Lifelong Learning Institute

3) Finally, you must pass the Fitness Instructor Course (FIC) theory and practical examination, and complete a 30-hr attachment programme covered in the following course:

Course: Fitness Instructor Course (FIC)
Prerequisites: BES, Standard First Aid with AED Certification
Cost: S$941.60 (inclusive of GST)
