Did you know that every year in Singapore, about 500 young people aged between 16 and 45 are diagnosed with cancer?

They face unique challenges and need special support.

The National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) has created the AYA Bytes app and launched the Building for Hope campaign to help these young fighters.

AYA Bytes: A Supportive App for Young Cancer Patients

AYA Bytes is a mobile app that provides age-specific information to help young people with cancer.

The app has more than 100 articles on topics like cancer treatment, managing symptoms, nutrition, exercise, fertility preservation, and mental health.

The NCCS AYA team keeps the app updated with new articles.

When users sign up, they enter details like their age, gender, type of cancer, and treatment.

This helps the app create a personalised dashboard with curated articles.

And don’t worry; all personal data is kept confidential.

Dr Evelyn Wong, the project lead of AYA Bytes, says, “We hope that AYA Bytes will serve as a companion for AYA cancer patients as a useful, handy resource they can turn to for reliable cancer information anytime during their treatment journey.”

Building for Hope Campaign: Raising Awareness and Funds

From April 3-7, the NCCS is running the Building for Hope campaign to raise awareness and funds for AYA cancer patients.

Fashion entrepreneur Arissa Cheo designed a special #BuildingForHope t-shirt, which is sold to raise money for the cause.

Arissa Cheo says, “I am honoured to contribute to this meaningful cause and hope that together we can make a positive impact and difference to the lives of AYA cancer patients.”

Local celebrities and social media influencers will show their support by posting selfies wearing t-shirts.
