Singapore Seeks Nominations for Top Teacher Awards
On 21 October 2024, the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Singapore announced they are looking for nominations for 2 Singapore national awards.
These awards are the President’s Award for Teachers (PAT) and the Outstanding Youth in Education Award (OYEA).
The PAT started in 1998.
It has honoured over 130 teachers for their great work.
The OYEA began in 1999.
It has recognised more than 100 young teachers.
These awards aim to thank teachers who have made big contributions to education in Singapore.
Who Can Be Nominated?
The MOE has set clear rules for who can be nominated for each award.
For the PAT, teachers from many schools can be nominated.
These include:
- Primary schools
- Secondary schools
- Junior Colleges (JC)
- Millennia Institute (MI)
- Institute of Technical Education (ITE)
- Polytechnics
- National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC)
The OYEA is for younger teachers.
They must be 35 years old or younger.
These young teachers must work in primary schools, secondary schools, JCs, or MIs.

What These Awards Mean
These awards are more than just prizes.
They show what Singapore values in its teachers.
According to MOE, “The President’s Award for Teachers recognises experienced educators who are role models for the teaching profession.”
This means PAT winners are teachers who inspire both students and other teachers.
For the OYEA, MOE states, “These teachers embody youthful idealism, energy, and enthusiasm, inspiring both their students and peers through their words and deeds.”
This shows that OYEA winners are young teachers who bring new ideas and excitement to schools.
Why These Awards Matter
These awards encourage teachers to try new ways of teaching.
This can lead to more innovative learning methods in classrooms.
The awards also motivate teachers to keep improving their skills.
