Singtel’s “Expressions Through Art 2024” initiative returns for its third year, bringing the creative talents of special education students to the forefront at iconic Singapore locations.
Singtel’s Art Initiative Showcases 37 SPED Artworks
On 7 November 2024, Singtel launched the third edition of “Expressions Through Art 2024“.
This event aims to show the talents of students from special education (SPED) schools in Singapore.
The exhibition features 37 artworks from all 25 SPED schools in the country.
For the first time, the exhibition will be held at Gardens by the Bay.
According to Singtel, Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Group Chief Executive Officer of Singtel, said, “Art is a powerful medium for expression, and we’re proud to be able to give these students a chance to shine through this initiative.”
Exhibition Details and Locations
The “Expressions Through Art” exhibition will be held at two main locations:
- Gardens by the Bay: 7 to 22 November 2024
- National Gallery Singapore: 9 to 22 December 2024
In addition, digitised versions of the artworks will be showcased on the windows of six SMRT trains.
This display will run from 9 to 31 December 2024.
The campaign included a tour of the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay for 10 students.
These students then created art pieces inspired by their visit.

Impact on SPED Students and Families
The “Expressions Through Art” initiative has a positive impact on SPED students and their families.
Ms Linda Kho, Principal of Pathlight School, expressed her gratitude for the initiative.
She said, “Opportunities like these not only showcase their talents and abilities, but also inspire them to continue developing their artistic passion and maximise their potential.”
The event also helps build confidence in children with disabilities.
Ms Noorizan Bte Sharif Foeddin, parent of a student-artist, shared her thoughts on the event.
She said, “Events like Expressions Through Art help to build the confidence of children with disabilities, and I am incredibly proud that the talent and hard work of my daughter have been recognised.”
Singtel’s Commitment to Supporting Special Needs Education
Singtel has shown a strong commitment to supporting special needs education in Singapore.
The Singtel Touching Lives Fund (STLF) has raised over S$58 million to support educational needs for children and youth with special needs.
STLF supports over 20 charities and six SPED schools offering customised education programmes.
The “Expressions Through Art” initiative was first launched in 2022.
Previous exhibition sites have included National Gallery Singapore, 313@Somerset, and various SMRT stations.
Artistic Details of the Exhibition
The participating students range in age from 7 to 18 years old.
They used various art materials for their creations:
- Watercolour paints
- Coloured pencils
- Markers
The artworks showcase the students’ unique perspectives and creative abilities.
The exhibition aims to foster a more empathetic and inclusive society by highlighting these talents.
