Announcement of Street-Hail Service Operator Licence
LTA has awarded a Street-hail Service Operator Licence (SSOL) to GrabCab Pte Ltd.
The announcement was made on 2 April 2025, marking a significant development in Singapore’s transport landscape.
GrabCab is a subsidiary of Grab Rentals Pte Ltd and a sister company of GrabCar Pte Ltd.
GrabCar Pte Ltd holds an existing Ride-hail Service Operator Licence (RSOL) and Car-pool Service Operator Licence (CSOL).
Details of the Licence Awarded to GrabCab Pte Ltd
The SSOL granted to GrabCab is valid for 10 years, commencing from 9 April 2025.
With this licence, Grab Cab becomes the sixth taxi operator in Singapore, increasing competition in the sector.
LTA has allowed GrabCab a three-year grace period to expand their fleet to meet requirements.
According to LTA, “GrabCab’s entry into the street-hail sector brings the total number of taxi operators to six, providing drivers and commuters with more choices and is expected to boost taxi supply.”
Requirements for Grab Cab
As part of the licence conditions, Grab Cab must adhere to several key requirements:
- Meet LTA’s safety standards
- Ensure non-exclusive partnership arrangements with drivers
- Expand fleet to a minimum of 800 taxis within the grace period
- Make taxis easily identifiable for street-hail customers
- Use LTA-approved vehicle models with sufficient boot space
- Follow the same taxi fare structure as other street-hail operators
- Display fares prominently
The new taxi company must also have a prominent roof-top sign and a distinctive livery scheme to be easily recognisable.
These requirements aim to ensure fair competition and maintain service standards across all taxi operators.
Grab Cab’s entry is expected to bring innovation and potentially new technologies to the traditional street-hail taxi service.
As Grab prepares to launch its street-hail services, commuters and drivers alike will be watching closely to see how this new player impacts the taxi industry in Singapore.
