IN SIMPLE TERMS

Singapore schools will start classes in early January 2025, with different start dates for different year levels. The school year is divided into four terms with breaks in between, but some holiday dates might change depending on when public holidays are officially confirmed.

WHY IT MATTERS

Parents need the confirmed calendar to plan family schedules, childcare, and holidays throughout the year.
Students and educators must coordinate lesson planning and exam schedules around fixed term dates and potential adjustments.
Schools hosting national examinations face earlier year-end dates, affecting their academic calendar and student preparation timelines.
Uncertainty around public holiday confirmation creates planning challenges for families and institutions relying on a fixed calendar.

Room for Adjustments

A noteworthy aspect of the 2025 calendar is the fact that some vacation dates may shift if public holidays are confirmed on later dates.

This adds some uncertainty into a calendar otherwise known for its clarity.

Schools used for GCE O-Level exams will end their academic year on 24 October 2025.

For these schools, the exact end date depends on the examination schedule.

This change in scheduling shows the balance MOE has to find between academic standards and logistical needs.

All eyes are now on the MOE as parents await final confirmation of public holidays to finalise their 2025 plans.
