In a press release by NEA, the Southwest Monsoon season has started in Singapore.
As of 2 June 2025, winds are expected to strengthen, coming from the southeast or southwest.
The Southwest Monsoon usually lasts until September and is known as the drier season of the year.
However, the first fortnight of June will see short periods of thundery showers over parts of the island.
Showers will mostly happen during the late morning and afternoon on some days.
The Southwest Monsoon has set in over Singapore in early June 2025.
This season usually brings drier weather but can also cause localised heavy rain in short bursts.
Gusty (strong) winds and thundery showers are common, especially when Sumatra squalls pass over the island.
Residents will notice warmer and more humid nights during this period.
Daytime heat can be intense, with the temperature sometimes rising to 35 degrees Celsius.
As mentioned by NEA, Singapore had inter-monsoon conditions from 16 to 31 May 2025.
Winds during this period were light and changed direction often.
Localised thundery showers fell over some areas on several days.
On 18 May 2025, a Sumatra squall led to wide thundery showers across Singapore in the late morning and early afternoon.
The highest daily rainfall was 78.6mm, recorded at Sembawang on that day.
According to NEA, this period was warm with below average rainfall, indicating drier than usual conditions.
