  • COMPASS has bonus criteria for Skills Bonus and Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus
  • The framework takes effect for new applications from 1 September 2023

Singapore has devised a new plan to help companies find the right people for their jobs.

The name of this thing is the Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS).

Now it’s giving bonus points for some skills and companies; we’ll explain them in simple terms.

What is COMPASS?

COMPASS is a new way for Singapore to decide who can get an Employment Pass (EP) to work there.

It looks at the person and the company to see if they fit well with Singapore’s workforce.

It starts for new applications on 1 September 2023.

Bonus Criteria: Skills Bonus and Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus

COMPASS has two bonus criteria: the Skills Bonus (Criterion 5) and the Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus (Criterion 6).

Someone with unique skills that Singapore needs can get bonus points on their COMPASS score.

Also, if a company is important to Singapore’s economy, it can get bonus points too.

Skills Bonus: Helping Companies Find the Right Talent

Singapore needs people with special skills to grow its economy.

The government is helping locals learn these skills, but sometimes, they still need people from other countries to help.

That’s where the Skills Bonus comes in.

If someone has a job on the Shortage Occupation List (SOL), they can get up to 20 bonus points on COMPASS.

The SOL is reviewed every three years but can change more often if needed.

Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus: Recognising Important Companies

Some companies are really important for Singapore’s economy.

They create good jobs and help the country grow.

The Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus is for these companies.

They can get 10 bonus points on COMPASS for each EP application they send in.

To get this bonus, companies need to be part of special programs run by the government or the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).

Actionable and Practical Takeaways

  • Learn more about COMPASS and how it affects your company or job application
  • Check if your occupation is on the Shortage Occupation List (SOL)
  • Find out if your company qualifies for the Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus

In short, COMPASS is a new way for Singapore to make sure they get the right people for the right jobs.

With bonus criteria like the Skills Bonus and the Strategic Economic Priorities Bonus, they can help companies find the talent they need and support the local workforce.

So, are you ready for COMPASS?
